PhD-studentship or Postdoctoral position in Systems Biology closed

The department of Systemic Cell Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany, invites applications for a PhD-studentship or a Postdoctoral researcher

Our research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of protein clustering in the
plasma membrane of cells, specifically for the GTPase Ras, and their role in signal transduction. We apply systems biology methods that include molecular cell biology, advanced fluorescence microscopy and mathematical modeling. The formulation of accurate mathematical models of Ras clustering and Ras signal transduction pathways will be crucial for the interpretation of experimental data and for the design of new experiments. We are looking for a motivated researcher with a systems biology background to implement and apply these computational models in close collaboration with biologists and physicists in our group. We are looking for candidates with a degree in mathematics, bioinformatics, physics, biophysics, or related fields.

One position for a PhD-student or for a Postdoctoral researcher is available from June 1, 2008 and is limited to a maximum of three years. Candidates with a keen interest in systems biology and interdisciplinary research are encouraged to apply. A PhD-studentship is remunerated according to the guidelines of the Max Planck Society at 50% of the TVöD E13 salary scale. The salary of a postdoctoral researcher is according to the directive of the TVöD (E13).

The Max Planck Society wishes to employ more handicapped people. Applications of handicapped people are explicitly desired. Likewise, the Max-Planck-Society wishes to increase the proportion of women where they are underrepresented. Women are therefore explicitly invited to apply.
