Job Description:
The Dow Chemical Company is making strategic investments to enable new product development in the BioSciences arena. This emerging market space targets R&D in new biotechnology-derived products ranging from agricultural commodities, to biomaterials, biomimetics, and biofuels. Computational modeling and biological systems analysis are foundational competencies for this field of research and development. Dow is building a Bioanalytical Center of Expertise located at the Dow AgroSciences facility in Indianapolis, IN. As a member of this Bioanalytical Center you will be accountable for leading the development and implementation of plant-related Systems Biology capabilities for Dow AgroSciences and Dow BioSciences projects and product platforms. 

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Advance our computational biology capability and apply biological modeling approaches to enable or accelerate R&D projects
  • Act as an internal technical expert to develop a robust infrastructure for computational modeling in biology, and lead efforts that utilize external collaborations in this arena
  • Apply relevant computational tools for the analysis of plant metabolic networks
  • Assess, implement and document various bioinformatics and Systems Biology tools to streamline data management, data analysis and experimental design
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a relevant scientific discipline, with 3-5 years minimum experience is required.
  • Strong capabilities in the integration, visualization, and application of highly-dimensional data sets in the context of plant biotechnology discovery and exploitation, including proteomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic, QTL/eQTL, or imaging data are essential.
  • A highly interactive operational style, developing partnerships with scientists generating data, working in multidisciplinary, matrixed teams, and demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders in both the areas of biological analysis and computational sciences will be critical.
  • Proven rigor in experimental design and optimization, data normalization and analysis, development of / application of robust statistical analysis techniques to varied data sets is required.
  • Hands-on experience with bioinformatics and systems biology tools, databases, and relevant computational languages, such as Perl, Python or C is critical. 
  • A solid background in statistics, including familiarity with mathematics & statistics applications such as R and/or Matlab is highly desired.
  • Experience with Spotfire or Pipeline Pilot is a plus, as is relational database development and Web applications development.
