Fixed Term Contract for 30 Months 

The Research Associate will join the University of Leicester Systems Biology Lab (www.SBLab.org), based in the internationally leading Control and Instrumentation Research Group, to work on this EPSRC funded project.  The research project aims to apply a systems approach to the problem of mechanical ventilation of the lungs.  We will use advanced control theory to "close the loop" between diagnostic measurements derived from computer-based simulations and adjustment of parameters in a functioning ventilation system, with the ultimate ain of significantly reducing ventilation-associated lung injury in critically ill patients.  The Research Associate at Leicester will work closely with a second Research Associate funded on this project, based at the University of Nottingham and supervised by Dr. Jonathan Hardman (http://www.jghardman.co.uk/).  This is an exciting opportunity to join a genuinely multidisciplinary team of researchers working at the Life Sciences Interface.  Applications are welcome from candidates holding (or about to complete) a PhD in control or Systems Engineering, Physics and Mathematics.
