Postdoctoral Associate Position(s) open

In a pioneering national initiative, Qatar Computing Research Institute was established two years ago by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Located in Doha, Qatar, QCRI seeks candidates for postdoctoral associate positions in:

Bioinformatics and Systems Biology for genetic mappings.
This work will help provide a sound foundation for human association studies that seek to link variations in our genomes to our propensity for human disease.
Discovering mechanistic linkages to disease causing genes will provide clues that can help the development of disease therapeutics and provide important prognostic information.

Dr. Bensmail, working closely with the Shafallah Genetics center to attack the classical genetics problems such as consanguinity through the analysis of high-throughput DNA sequencing.
A robust method for determining the genetic elements that underlie a phenotype is to gather groups of individuals of opposite phenotypes, interrogate the genome sequences of each group, and identify elements that are present in different proportions between the groups. Our work is using this approach computational methodologies for analyzing high-throughput DNA sequencing reads obtained from large pools of phenotypically-extreme individuals.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, systems biology, or a closely related field. In-depth experience with large-scale data analysis using Linux-based systems with perl/python and R (or equivalent) is required. A strong background in statistics (hypothesis testing) is a plus. Candidates should have demonstrated creative computational analysis on projects from start to finish as proven by a solid publication track record.
