Big Data Science in Berlin - fully-funded PhD positions open

HEIBRiDS - a new Research School in Data Science invites applications of PhD candidates. The Einstein Center for Digital Future involving four Berlin universities in cooperation with six Helmholtz Centers in the capital region offers projects in a collaborative research environment across disciplinary borders involving data science topics in the following main research areas:

·       Machine Learning and Data Mining

·       Modeling

·       Novel Hardware Concepts

·       Imaging

·       Visualization


with applications including but not limited to genomics, structural biology, medicine, remote sensing, seismology, earth - and space sciences. Specific project descriptions can be found at https://heibrids.mdc-berlin.de


Research will be conducted in cooperation between one of the Helmholtz research centers:

·       Max-Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC)

·       Alfred-Wegener-Institute Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI)

·       Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY)

·       German Aerospace Center (DLR)

·       German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ)

·       Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB)


and one of the participating universities:

·       Technische Universität Berlin (TU)

·       Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin

·       Freie Universität Berlin (FU)

·       Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU)

To apply, a master's degree in quantitative sciences (computer science, physics, statistics or mathematics) or related applied subjects (bio- or geoinformatics etc), awarded by July 2018, is required.
